ABSTRACT:
This is a 5 page paper giving a modern analysis of the film and play “India Song” by Marguerite Duras. “India Song”, a play and film by Marguerite Duras uses modern theatrical aspects in order to portray the modern day issues of feminism and colonization. The play tells the story of Anne-Marie Stretter in 1930s India. Instead of a staged production with dialogue between the characters however, Duras has created a play and film in which dismembered voices, music and sounds of the streets all are choreographed to depict Stretter’s and India’s feeling of alienation.
